Congratulations to our Junior Cup team & management on an outstanding win over Fermoy in the South Munster Section Final of the Junior Cup. Cobh got their revenge after losing out in the area final to Fermoy last year. Home advantage key last year and again this year.
Our weekend started off on Saturday morning as we defeated Blarney GC, 3.5-1.5. The afternoon saw a hard fought battle with Mahon GC despite a 4-1 scoreline, two matches were down the 19th but Tony Mc Keon sealed victory on the 17th.
Sunday morning saw a very intense battle with Monkstown. Tony Mc Keon again put a point on the board and this was soon backed up with Jack Palmer securing a great 2&1 victory with an impressive sand save on the 17th, holing out from over 20ft to crush the Monkstown challenge. Jamie Bates secured victory on the 18th to see us through to the final. Front man Jack Palmer went out and put a point on the board, defeating the Fermoy opposition after just 11 holes. Fermoy pipped a point back shortly afterwards but with a great win yet again by Tony Mc Keon, this left the scoreline 2-1 with two matches on the 18th hole. Eoin Wilson’s match was all square on the last but with his opposite number pulling his tee shot left into trouble, this opened the door for Wilson and he secured victory in front of a jubilant Cobh following.
It was great to see so many green jumpers out over the weekend. The lads really appreciate the support and it would be great to see many more out to support the team in the next round.
The next round is due to take place on 12th July. The venue is Badon GC and our opponents are Bantry Bay GC. Tee time is 3:15pm
Compliments to Jim & all his staff on a well run event inside the new clubhouse. And finally to Eoin and his green keeping staff, the course was in fabulous condition over the weekend. Long may it last.
